250 GN -1992

Simple but sophisticated

40 years ago, an engine with even a single overhead-camshaft and four valves per cylinder would have been classed as a sophisticated sports bike. Times have

certainly changed: The little GN 250 Suzuki lightweight touring bike has an ohc fourvalve engine, yet is one of the lower-priced models in its class.

Elegant Utility Bike

As well as its excellent engine – inherited from the old off-road Suzuki DR - the GN is extremely well-equipped, with a revcounter, an electric start and even a digital readout on the instrument panel showing which gear is engaged. It may be a utility bike, but that doesn't stop the GN from looking elegant in its attractive "custom" finish, accentuated by much chrome and polished aluminum brightwork. Simplified to a minimum, the cradle frame has the engine hung in the normal bottom bracket position plus conventional suspension units.

Safe and Stable

Surprisingly easy to ride, the GN sails through urban gridlock thanks to the amazing flexibility of its engine and the well-matched ratios in its five-speed transmission. Clean, stable and equipped with powerful brakes, the GN 250 gave a greater feeling of safety in use than its little sister, the GN 125, thanks to its quicker speed of reaction.

Engine: 249cc (72x61rnm) air-cooled singlecylinder four-stroke; internal balancing shaft

Power Rating: 20.9 hp@ 8000 rpm

Valves: single overhead-camshaft

Fuel System: 34mm carburetor

Transmission: 5-speed, chain final drive

Brakes: disc (front); drum (rear)

Wheels: 3.00x18 inch (front); 4.60xl6 inch (rear)

Elegant, economical and well-equipped, tbe Suzuki 250 GN is one of the best of the 90’s generation of urban motorcycles.
